What happens to racehorses at the end of their careers? Those not lucky enough to be retired with dignity sometimes end up in slaughterhouses, like 1986 Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand. Old Friends, featured in People magazine for the work they do, saves Thoroughbreds from such tragic fates. Ferdinand's son Bull inthe Heather, an ambassador for Old Friends, is a living reminder to take better care of aging equine athletes. An upset winner in the 1993 Florida Derby, "Bully" came to the retirement facility with such poor feet that he must wear expensive therapeutic shoes. At 21, the grey stallion enjoys daily back rubs and showing visitors his lovable personality. This benefit model is crafted of artist's resin, and stands approximately 5" high.
